Creating ceramics/pottery is an amazing process because it implies various stages of creativity which I enjoy terribly! One has to choose a clay that will most appropriately serve the purpose of the piece but also visually harmonizes itself with the glazes it will support. Then, comes the act of throwing, that is very organic, sensual and intuitive in nature. When the piece has dried and went through the kiln for a first firing phase, one can now plan what type of decors will bring life and...

A little update about Mokusho ceramics! Since the beginning of 2023, I’ve been renting a working space at the school I took my autumn classes at “Les Faiseurs”. I decided not to take any courses this winter, but simply put into practice all the notions I’ve learned in both of my autumn courses. I really enjoy going there twice a week for a total of 6 hours a week to create new pieces that will soon be coming out of the kiln. Un petit update sur les céramiques Mokusho ! Depuis le début de...

Mokusho ceramics training

(En français plus bas) After the turning of the pots, it was time to reflect on decor. I decided to use the “mishima” technique on 2 of them, where you engrave a pattern in the leather hard clay and then fill the engraved motif with an engobe or colored slip. The excess is then wiped out to leave only colored slip within the engraved parts. On the right, a technique I used in 2018 on one of my other first training pieces. Après le tournassage des pots, il était temps de réfléchir au décor...

Mokusho ceramics

(En français plus bas) In my other weekly class, I had the opportunity to experience the turning of pieces in a mid-red clay, that offers a more organic interesting look. Tougher to work with, since the inclusions found in it tend to scrape the hands when you turn it. I can’t wait to decorate this with a complementary sage-green glaze. Dans mon autre cours hebdomadaire, j'ai eu l'occasion d'expérimenter le tournage de pièces dans une argile rouge moyen, qui offre un aspect plus organique...

Mokusho ceramics

(En français plus bas) Final class of my 1st weekly course. All the pieces have been underglazed or just glazed. Not much visible there, since glaze, before it is fired, will just look different (often paler) than from the saturated color it will have in the end. I will be able to share each piece individually in 3 weeks from now! Can’t wait to see what it will look like! Dernière classe de mon 1er cours hebdomadaire. Toutes les pièces ont été sous-émaillées ou juste émaillées. Il n'y a pas...

(En français plus bas) Here are the pieces from my second weekly course that I turned the best I could, to create a footing and make the surface more regular. The next step will be underglaze deco and glazing. Voici les pièces de mon deuxième cours hebdomadaire que j'ai tournassées du mieux que j'ai pu, pour créer un pied et rendre la surface plus régulière. La prochaine étape sera la déco par sous glaçure et l'émaillage.

Mokusho's decoration with underglaze

We spent the last two courses turning (tournasser in French) the leather hard pots and also started applying underglaze decorations on the leather textured and bisqued (biscuité) ones. Next week will be glazing (the final step!) 🎨 ☕ 🍵

Mokusho biscuit/bisque ready for glazes

Now that the pots have gone through a first firing in the kiln, they are in the state called “biscuit”. They are ready to receive decorative glazes. I have more than a week now to think about unique decors for each of these pieces. 🎨 ☕ 🍵

Inspiration for future ceramics

Beauty is everywhere when we stop and take time to observe. This nude tree trunk (its bark was burned) offers an amazing play of terracotta shades which can be an inspiration for future ceramics decor! 😍 🤔 🍵

Mokusho's ceramic training

Yesterday, Mokusho started her 2nd class of pottery/ceramics per week, this time with the wonderful Gaële Dufaux-Mathieu @gaeleceramiste. Gaële is a wonderful teacher, an amazing ceramist and person. Her courses are great and the atmosphere in the workshop is warm and friendly! I try to engage in this process as much as possible with all my time, energy and passion. 🍵 🫖

Mokusho's ceramic training

It’s all about learning, right? My first wheel-turned pots after a 2-year break. 🤔 Learning how to wrap the plastic right not to squish the lips of your pots during drying is one of the many things I had to learn the hard way 😅🤣 Reminding myself: It’s a process not a destination! 🍵 🫖

Mokusho's ceramics training soon to play with glazes

Mokusho is so looking forward to start playing with glaze and glaze superpositions. Creating forms is already so much fun… decorating them will be pure bliss! 🎨 🍵 🫖😍

Mokusho's ceramics training with Gaële Mathieu-Dufaux

Wonderful news! Mokusho’s ceramics training is being enriched with a second complementary course each week, this time with the amazing potter/ceramist Gaële Dufaux-Mathieu @gaeleceramiste. I had visited her workshop in 2020 and always wanted to train with her. A great artists and beautiful human being! I’m starting September 26th! Yay! 🌍 🎨 🍵 🫖😍 This is a sample of her beautiful creations from her “Boreal” collection!

Mokusho's new ceramics training

Mokusho started her ceramics training yesterday at “Les Faiseurs” with the talented and amazing teacher Oriana Ivaniuta. It is so exciting and thrilling to ground oneself again, learn and create. Life is soooo good! 🌍 🎨 🍵 🫖😍

Mokusho's ceramics/pottery training

After a two-year break, Mokusho is starting again her ceramics/pottery training! 🍵🫖🍽 Another opportunity for expressing high vibes through the harmony of colors and shapes through another medium, while honoring my love of ancient art that stems from my studies in iconography and archaeology of ancient Egypt and travels/contacts with ancient civilization’s art (Mexico, Africa and Peru) I grew up in, as the daughter of development workers.
